Memorandum

Memorandum

To: adidas Employees

From: Mark King

Subject: Adidas commitment to transparency

Date: 9/28/2017

As I am sure many of you are aware, adidas director of global sports marketing, James Gatto, was recently accused of allegedly bribing high school athletes with company funds. In this time of high media coverage relating to the company, it is important that we remain calm despite confusion and rising tensions.

On behalf of adidas and all employees, I aim to remain as transparent as possible with the knowledge I have in regards to the current situation. The media has released multiple allegations that Gatto has been bribing high school athletes to attend colleges sponsored by adidas. Reports have also included that the case has stemmed from a two-year FBI investigation.

However, due to the little known facts, I ask that when confronted by friends, family, customers and potentially the media, we as a company have the same response. In doing so we will portray adidas as banding together when times get rough, while also unveiling the truth.

If approached, I am asking that we all have the same response:

“I am unaware of any details regarding James Gatto that have not already been covered by the media. We are committed to supporting our community of athletes and consumers.”

This news is just as alarming to you as it is to me and adidas as a company, but we are lucky to have a powerful team to lean on in uncertain times.

If you have additional questions or concerns regarding the recent allegations please do not hesitate to ask. Your management teams are here to support you, so feel free to reach out.

Sincerely,

Mark King
