GE Geospring™ Manufacturing Facility Regretfully Announces Closure in Louisville, Kentucky
Fairfield, CT. (November 2, 2016) - As a way of consolidating manufacturing resources in the United States, GE announced today the closure of its Louisville Geospring™ Hybrid Water Heater Plant. Expected to affect nearly 200 employees, the closure is anticipated to be completed by December.
“Our management made a thorough analysis and concluded that of the several manufacturing facilities, closure of the Louisville operations would have the least impact on the company’s ability to serve our customers nationally,” GE Appliances President and CEO Charles Blankenship said. “This adjustment will enable us to reduce operating costs and still provide the same high level of sales and service.”
The Louisville plant began operations in 2012, described by Lt. Gov. Abramson as a “shining example of a movement by the United States to get multinational companies bringing manufacturing to America.” The grand opening of the plant projected a bright future for the industry.
“Louisville GE has always had highly skilled, productive employees, and this closure is unfortunate not only for the company, but for the hard working employees here. We are dedicated to helping them find other employment.”
Market conditions have impacted regions nationwide, encouraging downsizing of large companies. While the Louisville plant was initially well situated, the measures of the current economy has pushed GE to take necessary action by reducing the number of plants in the U.S.
